7 wicket victory over Sudbury 3rd XI

On Saturday 1st July Yoxford 1st team made the trip to Milden cricket club to play Sudbury’s 3rd XI. Playing at the most elevated place in suffolk with some very picturesque views, Sudbury won the toss and elected to bat first. A good ball crashing into the stumps from the king of swing a.k.a Chris Mears saw Sudbury lose their first wicket. This set the tone for the afternoon and shortly after this dismissal,Tom Driver claimed his first and only wicket of the day , bowling the batter with a good ball that crashed into leg stump. Mears and T. Driver bowled 11 overs between them before bowling changes took place. Sudbury’s captain played a typical “captain’s innings” scoring a good 41 whilst steadying the ship. W.Driver was 1st change bowler and managed to claim the wicket of Sudbury’s captain and their number 3. Following on from his earlier drop from a hard chance , that may have been going to first slip, wicketkeeper M.Denny took a terrific catch diving away to his right , to silence his critics! Debutant Adam Cox bowled well , only going for 13 runs off his 6 overs, which was backed up by some good bowling from B.Aust. Yoxford also had two more debutants in G.Borrett and E.Borrett , who both bowled well , claiming a wicket each. Special mention to E.Borrett who clean bowled the set batsman on his first senior game. D.Driver bowled the last over of the innings , taking 1 wicket and pushing it through reasonably quickly for an old boy.

Yoxford’s opening pair D.Driver and M.Denny came out ready to chase 141. D.Driver got the innings underway with a 6 over mid off, with M.Denny looking very solid at the other end , before chipping one back to the bowler. B.Aust came in at number 3 and played some nice strokes before being caught on the off side . This meant the Mohawk Master Nick Denny was coming in and being as solid as a rock, before getting out playing an expansive shot. After a slow start boundaries came like london buses when D.Driver got going, with C.Mears doing the same at the other end . This pair got Yoxford through to the end , winning by 7 wickets. D. Driver ended up on 69* and C.Mears with 53* , class knocks from the pair of them. Next week Yoxford 1st XI face Chappel&Wakes Colne at home where they will be looking for another win on home turf.
